What I Learned from Sonny Chiba

Sonny Chiba

I bought a 3-disc Bruce Lee DVD about a year ago. One of the disc contained three 1970’s movies starring a Japanese actor named Sonny Chiba. Chiba plays Takuma (Terry in the English dub) Tsurugi. These movies were The Street Fighter, Return of the Street Fighter, and Sister Street Fighter.

They were chock full of violence and gore.

In Defense of the N-Word, Part III

What you must understand, especially for your daughter’s sake, is that naps are nothing to be ashamed of. My children are Biracial. My daughter is 1 year old. She has big Caucasian-like curls. Do you know there are people close to us who are holding their breath, praying that her hair does not ‘turn nappy‘?

In Defense of the N-Word, Part II

My non-Black mommy friends think of nappy as any type of hair that is not immediately identifable as Caucasian. If pregnant with a boy, many of them breath a sigh of relief saying, “Thank goodness it’s a boy, I can just cut his hair short and run a brush over it. I don’t know what I would do with a girl’s hair.”
